Gertie was bred and owned by Yvonne Froud - she had a wonderful life in South Wales with a household full of her relatives. Super walks in the woods and fantastic beach days, she was a happy, confident showgirl and a super mum to three litters. Sadly in April 2024 her owner passed and Gertie and her seven house mates had to find new homes. At nearly 12 it might have been difficult to find somewhere with multiple dogs in the home, which is what she was used to. After a phone call from Paula Hill – who was taking care of the pack while their futures were decided on - I agreed to have Gertie here where we have the space and time for an "oldie". Gertie has fitted seamlessly into the household and you would not know she had not spent all of her life here. She is a friendly, happy, well mannered girl who loves to welcome visitors - especially small ones - and adores having a soft toy to carry around. 2025 - Gertie celebrated her first year at Carolake on the 14th April 2025 with cake! She loves cake! A small mass on her side was diagnosed as a Mast Cell Tumour. In October she went in to have it removed, but as a precaution an x-ray was taken of her chest and abdomen. That showed something odd with her spleen so a fine needle aspiration was taken and sent away. The operation was postponed. Results showed that her spleen needed removing too. It was a big operation for an older girl, but both the spleen and the MCT were removed and after 24 hours at the vets she returned home. She was pretty dopey for the next 24 hours, but by the day after she was up and wagging and waiting for her breakfast! She has not looked back and we continue to take things one day at a time. Gertie has been sponsored by a breed club for which we are eternally grateful. They would prefer not to be named but know who they are. So many thanks from Gertie and all at Carolake.
